Faith in the Darkness: 2015

Faith In The Darkness

The Meaning

“Faith in the Darkness” is an expression of someone on the outside, looking into the House of God.

Faith of a Child

The joy, hearts, and faith of children light the way up the stairs and enable one to see The Holy Spirit (dove above). For the children in the doorway, I used a picture of my niece and nephew in front and then painted random children of many different ethnic groups together, to represent the true diversity inside the house of God.

A Fiery Passion

The High Priest looks on from above with a fiery passion, to redeem the hearts of humans.

Guardian Angels

There are two guardian angels on the side of the doorway protecting the vulnerability of their trust and faith in Christ.

The black background denotes the darkness of the world and the importance of coming to Christ with the faith of a child (Matthew 18:2-4).

The Process

I used pictures of old Brooklyn brownstone townhomes to sketch the window, doorway, and stairs. I also used different random pictures of children from all over the world to represent the groups of ethnic children in the doorway.

The ghostly guardian angels were the only two figures in which I did not sketch out before painting. I use ghostly figures in many of my paintings, such as “Mystery Cloud” and “Mystery Train.”
