The Meaning

I was inspired by one of my favorite rock bands Collective Soul by a song on their first album called “When the Water Falls” on this piece and this is a tribute to them.

The Water Overflow

The water drips over the top of the water jug (with a sunset in the background).

Oases

As the water falls, it forms little oases around the pottery with palm trees around the desert mountains where the camels search for water.

The Process

This is the first ceramic piece I’ve ever done; much more challenging than a canvas! It was so much different than painting on a flat two-dimensional canvas as I had to adjust the sizes of sketches with my camel characters and landscape to fit the piece before I could paint it. I used a gloss called Gamvar made by Gamblin to seal the ceramic piece after I was done painting it and it worked quite well.

Over time, I’ve tried to develop different sunsets in my pieces such as in “Open Rebellion” and “Dose of Reality.”
