Embryos: 2006

Embyos

The Meaning

“Embryos” attempts to describe new life inside the Spirit of Christ and is inspired by John 15:5. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” (NLT).

Angels

Two angels, in the bottom right-hand corner and the upper left-hand corner, look on in awe. The image above shows both angels combined.

Growing Pains

I tried to express all the different phases of the spiritual growing pains I personally experience as God navigates me throuth the influence of religious confusion and the world around me. This piece is most closely related to, “Place of the Skull.”

Uncertainty

The jagged blue and white background express the uncertainty of the spirit of the world and inability to make sense of it all.

Vertigo

I remember being inspired by the lyrics of a U2 song called “Vertigo” on one of the embryos (the third one down from the top).

The Process

One of the earlier pieces I did with acrylic paint, I did very little sketching before painting this one. The only part I sketched out was the circles, outlined them with red and then filled them in with black paint and let them dry. I painted the animated figures in over the black with a bright lemon colored yellow and then smeared it out from the inside of the embryos to create a deeper dimensional popping effect. The white you see on the painting, is the original color of the canvas.
